Quite often among religious people we hear them say "We don’t want to get the mark of the Beast that dreaded 666 number!"
If we read Revelation 13:17, 18 we find that the mark of the Beast, the name of the Beast, and the 666 number are three different things, although they all are related to the Beast.
"And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast; for it is the number of a man; and his number is six hundred threescore and six." Revelation 13:17, 18.
THE MARK OF THE BEAST The Beast, who is in opposition to God, and God both have a mark or a seal which distinguishes their followers. An official seal must have three things:-
- The name of the lawgiver.
- His official position or right to rule.
- The kingdom or territory over which he rules.
In Exodus 20:8-11 we find God’s seal or mark.
"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it."
If God’s seal or mark is the 7th day Sabbath, Saturday, then the Beast’s mark or seal would be in opposition to this. Sunday worship is the mark of the Beast, when it is enforced upon mankind by the laws of the land.
THE NAME OF THE BEAST The Beast power of Revelation 13 is none other than the Papacy or the Roman Catholic Church, and the image to the Beast is formed when Protestant America unite with the state to force everyone to worship on Sunday. This decree will encompass the whole world.
THE NUMBER OF HIS NAME - 666 This number, 666, is the number of a man, and is derived from his title which shows his claimed authority. Vicarious Filii Dei, meaning ‘Vicar of the Son of God’, is one of the titles of the Pope of Rome and the numerical value of this name when totalled is 666.
"And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God." Revelation 15:2.
Here the apostle John saw those who had gotten the victory 1. over the Beast - the Roman Catholic Church and her apostate beliefs; 2. over his image - the uniting of church and state to enforce religious laws; 3. over his mark - Sunday worship and 4. over the number of his name - the Pope’s authority.
